Challenges 
One of the keys to Fläkt Woods’ business success is developing products that match local market expectations. Utilizing modern laboratory resources, Fläkt Woods’engineers can ensure the development of high quality, high performance products. Even so, building prototypes and carrying out measurements often results in long development times which directly affect time-to-market and potential sales.

Illustrating this, when expanding into a new market, Fläkt Woods was faced with a challenge to double the capacity on one of its products. However, experience from similar laboratory work indicated that an unacceptably long development period of over one year could be expected.


Solution
Fläkt Woods decided to move the major part of its development work from laboratory scale to computational simulation models. Together with Medeso, Fläkt Woods implemented the use of ANSYS Workbench software to facilitate for a parametric simulation study of the new product design.

Benefits
During a 3-months period, Fläkt Woods´ engineers were able to perform detailed performance studies of more than 30 different virtual prototypes, finalizing with a verified product design that even exceeded the set performance goals. The product has now, with a great deal of success, entered the market and Fläkt Woods consistently adopts simulation- driven product development in order to reduce development time.
