SpaceClaim geometry interface
The latest version of the geometry modeller program
SpaceClaim now has a direct interface with ANSYS Workbench.
Parameters and named selections can be transferred.
-
Remote displacement boundary
condition
The remote displacement support in Workbench Simulation,
which allows specification of 6 degrees of freedom (translations
and rotations) is useful in many situations. Some examples:
- One can specify a given rotation in degrees.
- When large deformations are present, the boundary conditions
Frictionless Support and Cylindrical Support can give incorrect
results. Remote Displacement can then be used instead.
- It can represent a "spider" type connection for wheel-like
structures. It is a convenient alternative to the traditional
FEM method of having beams or springs going from the inside
surface of a hole to its center.
- With option Behavior set to Deformable, it avoids the stress
singularities otherwise often created by boundary conditions.
For instance, with all 6 degrees of freedom set to zero on a
surface, there is no average movement but unlike Fixed Support
it does not produce singularities.
+ Note for ANSYS Classic users: The underlying technology is
that contact elements are generated and connected to a pilot
node for which the degrees of freedom are set.
