Tips and Tricks

Additional options for Compression Only Support
ANSYS Workbench has a support type called Compression
Only. It represents a part not included in the geometry that
is infinitely stiff, has zero friction, and initially touches the
surfaces where it is applied. It responds to compressive but
not tensile or tangential forces. Sometimes one would like
to have more options for this support. That can be achieved
with a command object like the one linked to. With these commands, one can specify that the invisible stiff part
has an initial gap relative to the surface, that it has infinite
friction, or set an option to simplify convergence.
(Experienced ANSYS Classic users can script more options,
see CONTA174 in the ANSYS Classic manual.)

You can find the Script here

More Tips and Tricks

Improve your workflow for ICEM HEXA
Building high quality structural hex meshes in ICEM hexa, remember that you can re-use old blocking files when working on similar geometries. When starting on a new or revised geometry, simply read in the old*.blk and choose "auto-assign" and ICEM will automatically fit the blocking to the new geometry as long as name convention is kept. This saves time that can be used setting up the problem in CFX

SST Curvature correction term
If you are modelling flows with strong streamline curvature you can benefit from using the SST model with curvature correction term. This concerns situations like flows around a wing profile (tip vortex), flows, cyclones and separators and models with strongly curved surfaces. The SST model is turned on in the domain definitions tab and the curvature correction term through
