Tips and Tricks

Turning a report into a single Word document in
Microsoft Word 2007

When you generate a report in ANSYS Workbench and export it as a Word document, all images will be stored in separate files which are linked to from the main document.
To save it as a single document, you need to "break links" in Word. In the 2007 version of Office, this function can be quite difficult to find. Follow these steps:

First the "Edit Links to Files" function must be activated in Word.
- Click on the "Office Button" symbol at the top left and choose "Word Options".
- In the left column, choose "Customize".
- In the drop down menu, choose "All commands".
- Find "Edit Links to Files" and choose "Add".
This feature, indicated by a "chain" icon is now available in the main menu bar in Word.
When a Workbench report has been sent to Word,
- Click on the symbol for "Edit Links to Files".
- Mark all links.
- Choose "Save picture in document" and then "Break Link".
- Then save the Word document as a .docx file.
